The Fireman's Day Parade

Public Event

Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015

History of Fireman's Day
Firemans Day is a tradition that dates back to October 14, 1959. Always the Second Saturday in October, it is the Fire Departments one and only fundraiser for the year. The day consists of a boot drive, a parade, and a Brunswick stew dinner. All funds raised support the Fire Department in day-to-day operations as well as paying for new equipment, training, and general expenses. This special day is an opportunity for the community to come out and support the Fire Department that serves and protects it all year long.

Boot Drive
This tradition can be traced back to the years of bucket brigades when firefighters of the 1800s were trying to gather the funds to build a firehouse. The boot drive is simply just what it sounds like - a few firefighters are placed on Main Street with a fire boot for the public to drop in donations. These are quick donations from people driving by that, when added together, make a big difference. The boot drive usually lasts from 10:00 a.m. to around 12:30 p.m. and is followed by the parade.

Parade
The Fireman's Day Parade starts at 2:30 p.m. and takes place on Main Street, Creedmoor. You'll want to be sure to arrive early as the streets will be packed with excited children and happy parents. The procession starts with the Fire Department Honor Guard bringing our nations colors down the road and is followed by the full Creedmoor Fire Department Fleet with lights flashing, firefighters throwing candy to the kids, and much more. The parade draws fire trucks from over 20 neighboring departments as well as several marching bands, floats, hot rods, and even a few horses! It is quite an exciting event to watch. For questions regarding parade entries, please utilize the contact information provided below.

Brunswick Stew Dinner
Right after the parade, attendees can head straight to the Fireman's Day Dinner. Our homemade Brunswick Stew Dinner is the last event of the day, although it is the most important part of Firemans Day. This is where we make the money we need to continue serving the community effectively. The dinner starts immediately after the conclusion of the parade and is located at South Granville High School just a short mile down the road.

Families can sit down to an all-you-can-eat stew, barbecue, coleslaw, and bread feast in the cafeteria. For those who don't have the time to sit and eat with us, a convenient DRIVE-THRU line is available to grab one of the great to-go plates, a pint of barbecue, or a quart of our homemade stew. The Brunswick Stew is homemade from scratch by all of the members of the department. The recipe is one that has been passed down since the first Firemans Day and is sure to hit the spot if youre hungry.

The Creedmoor Volunteer Fire Department also accepts donations and sells Firemans Day t-shirts at the event. Please come out and show us your support!
